Pete Powers accepted the head coach position at Parma High School in January 2018. During his tenure, the school's baseball facility has largely been renovated through the dedicated time and efforts of Powers and several local supporters and volunteers.
Among the updates made to the facility are new fences for both the baseball and softball fields, new scoreboards and dugouts for both fields, improved field irrigation and drainage, fully reseeded infield grass, rebuilt pitcher's mound, and refurbished infield playing surface on the baseball field.
On the field, Powers led the Panthers to the 3A state baseball tournament in 2024, marking the first time the program had qualified for the state tournament since 2010. Parma won two of three games to earn the consolation trophy, believed to be the baseball program's first state tournament trophy since winning the state championship in 1986.
In 2023, the program spent spring break in the Phoenix, Arizona, area competing in the prestigious Coach Bob National Invitational Tournament where the Panthers faced four teams from much larger schools. Powers, his coaches, players, and supporters undertook the significant challenge of fundraising the money to pay for this trip, hitting every goal to allow the coaches and players to participate in the event.
Powers also oversaw the re-establishment of a summer baseball program in Parma. In 2019, after not participating in previous years, the Parma Gophers American Legion baseball program was reborn. The following summer fell victim to the COVID pandemic before the program was rebranded as the Parma Gauchos (Single A Legion) and Vaqueros (Junior/B Legion) in 2021.
Powers lives in Parma with his wife, Jody, has two adult children (Paige and Kyle), and is the owner/operator of Powers Construction Solutions.
