A document with the following terms was sent home with players following the first practice on March 1. It is for players and parents and establishes a code of conduct and behavior that is expected to be followed. There is a space at the end of the document for signatures from the player and a parent/guardian. Please contact Coach Powers with any questions.
Parma High School Baseball Player/Parent Contract
Participation in Parma High School Baseball comes with high expectations. First and foremost of these expectations is that you progress daily in your journey to become the best person and teammate possible. There will be times when you cannot do your own thing. The following items are in place to make you a better person and promote the success and image of our baseball program. If you cannot follow these policies, then you will be disciplined or dismissed. In general: do what is right, do your best and treat others as you wish to be treated.
Player Expectations:
1. Be on time for all baseball-related activities. The team will not wait on you. Regular practice
starts at 4:15. This means cleats on and ready to go.
2. Be properly dressed at all times. Practices require baseball pants, cleats, and the appropriate
layers for the wide range of weather we play in.
3. Have all of your required clothing and equipment, drinks, etc. with you and organized at every
practice and game. Your Mom loves you, but she shouldn’t have to bring you drinks and a snack.
4. Practice hard at game tempo. We WILL NOT coach poor attitudes.
5. Hustle and sprint on and off the field at all times.
6. Prioritize and celebrate team wins and other teammates’ success over your own personal goals.
7. Be coachable. Our coaches oftentimes ask you to do things just to stretch you. We know you
bring a lot of experience but keep an open mind.
8. Accept your role on the team. If you do not like it, work harder to change it.
9. Do not transfer blame or make excuses. It is not allowed. “Baseball Don’t Care.”
10. Disrespect for coaches, faculty, staff, umpires, fans....anyone will not be tolerated. Do not
question coaches on the field EVER. Players can approach coaches one-on-one to clear up any misunderstandings at an appropriate time in private.
11. Ask teammates before borrowing equipment.
12. Do not throw equipment. Even if it is yours this will result in disciplinary action.
13. Parma Baseball-issued jerseys and pants are to be tucked in, and caps are to be worn forward at all times. Make every attempt to keep your jersey clean and in good repair.
14. Be mindful of your health, your grades, your relationships with your teammates, and your
performance on and off the field. You represent all of us.
15. The use of alcohol, tobacco, and any other drug will not be tolerated. Violation of this policy will result in punishment and will follow the Parma High School Student Policy Manual.
16. Playing time will NEVER be discussed between the coaches and parents or players. We will
discuss skills or adjustments and recommend drills or extra work to help players develop.
17. Field and facility cleanup tasks as directed by the coaches must be completed before leaving
practice or games. Your obligation to the team ends once all tasks are completed and the entire
team is finished.
18. Be an example and set the standard high for future Panthers to follow.
19. When you step on the field for Parma High School Baseball you represent everyone supporting you. Your actions reflect on us all. DO NOT do anything to embarrass your family, the program, your coach, or yourself.
Have fun, learn the game, and enjoy the privilege of playing the great game of BASEBALL.
Parent/Guardian Expectations:
1. Hold YOUR CHILD accountable to all player expectations.
2. Cheer wildly for every team success.
3. Encourage all team members to keep going and stay focused in moments of failure.
4. Celebrate your child’s role on the team. Every role is of vital importance.
5. Be mindful of how table talk and car rides home influence attitudes. Let your player lead the
conversation. Meet player frustration with a listening ear, compassion, and encouragement. The
best growth comes from the most challenging times...help them see it through.
6. Let the coaches coach. Too many voices is a distraction to players and creates confusion.
7. Treat opponents and their fans with respect. We want to be the gold standard of baseball
programs in our conference and state. It starts with you.
8. Umpires and game officials should be given respect in all circumstances. The way we talk to
umpires is a reflection of how we treat all authority figures. We want our players and fans to be
like Armando Galarraga when things don’t go our way.
9. Become great friends with other parents and fans. Model being a fantastic community member.
10. Encourage your player to discuss concerns with their coaches. Players who learn to formulate their own questions and seek the necessary answers are learning way more than baseball.
11. Coaches will not discuss playing time, team role, or other players with parents. If you have
specific questions about your child’s well-being, safety, or areas of concern please arrange a
time to discuss this with the appropriate coach AFTER the player has discussed it with the coach
and at an appropriate time.
12. The dugout and bullpens are an extension of the playing field and is reserved for players,
coaches, and game officials. Never enter the playing field or dugout during a practice or game
unless directed to by team or game management.
Have fun, learn the game, and enjoy the privilege of having a baseball player in the family.
